The 7-Day Photorealistic Jacket

A collaboration with Render Ready

In 2025 I was tasked with creating a game-ready, Chaos Cloth sim-enabled hero asset to demonstrate how Render Ready’s clothing data can be used for games and VFX to create hero assets.

I was in charge of all aspects of the recreation of this garment in 3D, including scanning, retopology, rigging, and material creation. Garment styling on the physical mannequin was provided by Joseph Deese.

Initial production of the optimized hero asset took 28 hours based on highly detailed scans I took using an Artec Eva scanner, as well as reference photo sets from the same shoot.

The high-poly retopologized scan in Zbrush.

To ensure proper edge flow and ease of weight painting, all retopology was accomplished manually. No automated tools were used.

The final low-poly mesh.

Colors were sampled directly from scan data and used as base textures in Substance Painter.

All corduroy textures were baked from high—poly data created using Blender Geometry Nodes to replicate the fine details of the jacket’s construction.

Regular and worn versions of the textile maps were created and implemented in Unreal 5 materials.
